Effective Lennard-Jones Parameters for CO2-CO2 Dispersion Interactions in Water and near Amorphous Silica-water Interfaces

چکیده
Different models for effective polarizability in water and the corresponding dispersion forces between dissolved molecules are explored in bulk water and near interfaces. We demonstrate that the attractive part of the Lennard-Jones parameters, i.e., the van der Waals parameter C6 (UvdW ≈ −C6/ρ), is strongly modified when two carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules are near an amorphous silica-water and near a vapor-water interface. Standard simulation parameters for near-surface modeling are based on intermolecular forces in bulk media.

متن کاملHow Properties of Solid Surfaces Modulate the Nucleation of Gas Hydrate
Molecular dynamics simulations were performed for CO2 dissolved in water near silica surfaces to investigate how the hydrophilicity and crystallinity of solid surfaces modulate the local structure of adjacent molecules and the nucleation of CO2 hydrates. Our simulations reveal that the hydrophilicity of solid surfaces can change the local structure of water molecules and gas distribution near l...
متن کاملLennard-Jones Energy Parameter for Pure Fluids from Scaled Particle Theory
By considering the fact that the surface tension of a real fluid arises from a combination of both repulsive and attractive forces between molecules, a new expression for the interfacial tension has been derived from scaled particle theory (SPT) based on the work of cavity formation and the interaction energy between molecules. At the critical temperature, the interfacial tension between c...
متن کاملApplication of Super-Amphiphilic Silica-Nanogel Composites for Fast Removal of Water Pollutants.
This work first reports the preparation of super-amphiphilic silica-nanogel composites to reduce the contact angle of water to increase the diffusion of pollutant into adsorbents. In this respect, the silica nanoparticles were encapsulated into nanogels based on ionic and nonionic polyacrylamides by dispersion polymerization technique. The morphologies and the dispersion stability of nanogel co...
متن کاملPrediction of CH4 and CO2 hydrate phase equilibrium and cage occupancy from ab initio intermolecular potentials
Presented is an improved model for the prediction of phase equilibria and cage occupancy of CH4 and CO2 hydrate in aqueous systems. Different from most hydrate models that employ Kihara potential or Lennard-Jones potential with parameters derived from experimental phase equilibrium data of hydrates, we use atomic site-site potentials to account for the angle-dependent molecular interactions wit...
